Eric Karabell highlighted some strong middle relievers in his latest Relief Efforts column. I’ve had my eye on one of those middle relievers for a few weeks as he’s made a jump up the fantasy rankings. That reliever is Cincinnati’s Nick Masset.
If you need a strong reliever who’s earning points, Masset is probably available in your league and is the best bet you’ve got. He’s owned in 1% of ESPN leagues and 7% of Yahoo! public leagues and 15% of plus leagues. He began the season ranked 326th in Yahoo! and has skyrocketed to 81. He was at 62 or so last week, but 81 is still very, very good for a middle reliever. He’s the 28th best reliever in ESPN and the 13th best overall on Yahoo!’s list. Not bad for a former starting pitcher who never really got a chance with the Chicago White Sox.
